Mike McMonagle
Mike McMonagle
At an age when most kids start playing with matches, Mike McMonagle was, well, also playing with matches. Luckily, the day came when matches lost their luster and he picked up a guitar. It was a Saturday, presumably, and the Pennsylvania sky was blue and cloudless (probably). The first chord he ever strummed was an E minor; to this day, Mike still plays that chord, along with others, to craft an array of folk-inspired ditties about riding trains, drinking wine and the Commonwealth of Virginia. Listening to Mike perform is like taking a deep breath while watching the sun rise on a crisp, dewy morning, after a sleepless night of heavy drinking.
Vance DeRenzis
Vance DeRenzis
Hailing from Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, DeRenzis moved to West Chester where he attended WCU and graduated with a degree in Sociology in the spring of 2010. He has spent his first full year out of college performing for events including birthday parties, cocktail hours, wineries, bars and restaurants, golf clubs, and more.

Vance’s most prevalent skill is his well-tuned ear and knowledge of popular music, as well as his ability to engage an audience of any demographic. Whether it is Vance performing solo, in a duo with collaborator Nick Doak, or fronting the seven-piece cover band Hot Third Rail, every audience member is sure to leave having had an unforgettable experience and wanting more!
Mike Maguire
Mike Maguire
Mike Maguire has become one of the most active solo acoustic acts in the Philadelphia area with his wide repitoire and unpredictable setlists of cover material spanning all genres. Since first breaking onto the scene in 2001 as a founding member of the band Thugfolk, he has continued to evolve as a versatile musician and performer collaborating with several friends over the years in different projects. Mike is also a songwriter currently recording his debut album of original material with producer Andrew Lipke.
Up the Chain
Up the Chain
Reed Kendall, founder of Up the Chain, has been recording original music since before his voice dropped. He performed at the legendary suburban Philadelphia venue The Point at age 13 and released a full-length solo album while still in high school. After living on the road playing colleges along the east coast and spending six formative months in New Zealand, Kendall returned to Philly in 2008.
There, he immersed himself in a rich, surging community of musicians and formed Up the Chain. Up the Chain released a four song demo (2008) and a full-length live record (2009) that quickly got local airplay. Opening spots with America and Jeffrey Gaines at esteemed venues such as the Keswick Theatre would soon follow.
What was once a rotating cast of some of the area's best musicians has since coalesced into a tightly-knit, soulful live band. The streets have been watching Up the Chain for years, but now the road beckons. "Holy, Open, Drying Road," released in 2011, is a spirited, earnest debut album from a band ready to take their locally reputed sound nationwide. In true Americana fashion, the album reveals a sensibility raised in Philly, refined in New Orleans, and bound for New York City.
