Michael Morrow Band (Tribute To JGB)
Michael Morrow Band (Tribute To JGB)
Michael Morrow Band features the journeyman jam guitarist with a solid backing band, covering a vast and classic songbook, versatile and fierce guitar playing, and his renowned signature vocals...uncanny, haunting and unmatched. Voted RELIX magazine 2009 Jam Off contest winner and recently on the short list for spots with Jerry Garcia Band and Dark Star Orchestra, Morrow has been consistently putting smiles on Deadheads for years. JGB bandleader Melvin Seals called Michael personally after hearing a 2009 live recording, even flying him to St. Louis for an audition. In 2005, DSO called him "...the finest singer we auditioned...blown away." Voted Top Ten Best Of The Fest at 2006 Bethlehem Musikfest, a reviewer said "...the vocals were Dead on." Reading PA area jam promoter Chris Kratz at Plusvibes Productions called MM "...one of my favorite guitarists." After years as a hardworking Jam, Funk, Reggae and Grateful sideman, finally Michael Morrow steps out as a bandleader with authority. In 2012, the new Michael Morrow Band will begin the season by playing selected East Coast shows performing an electric tribute to the music of the Jerry Garcia Band. Alongside MM will be a tight band featuring drummer Stephe Ferraro (Boris Garcia), veteran Grateful bassist Jeff Wandling (Alligator,Groove Train Riders), stellar organist Matt Hahn (VW Project,Third Orbit) and a pair talented vocalists Marci Segal and Autumn Walden bringing the sweet harmony. Hear the familiar sounds, feel the vibes and catch the magic. --------- Spending the last few years as both a sideman for touring Reggae, Funk and Jamband acts, Morrow is also virual "go-to guy" with a slew of GD tributes including hometown Splintered Sunlight, Good Lovin' Jamband, Nine Finger Saloon, Steal Your Face, Double Dose, Living Earth and Montana Wildaxe. Easily handling the voices and instruments of Garcia,Weir,Pigpen,Keith Godchaux and Brent Mydland, his star has been quietly and gradually rising in Dead circles.----- On the road steadily since the nineties, Michael has performed with David Grisman, Bob Weir, Merl Saunders, Derek Trucks, Dave Matthews, Ben Harper, Joan Osbourne, Tom Constantin, David Gans, Peter Himmelman, Zen Tricksters and Kingfish. MM has appeared at festivals like Musefest Ithaca NY, Wormtown Festival in Mass and Gratefulfest 10 at Nelson Ledges OH, appearing with Steve Kimock, Mark Karan, DSO and even jamming onstage with Donna Jean, David Gans, Rob Barraco and Klyph Black for the Sat finales.------In October 2009, Michael did a West Coast tour run featuring performances on Marin KXYX radio, Yoshi's San Francisco, the 40th Anniversary of Woodstock concert in San Francisco at Golden Gate Park,a huge free event produced by original 1969 promoter Artie Kornfeld. MM appeared wit Ray Manzarek, Leon Hendrix, Chambers Brothers, Steve Martin, War and many more. MM also jammed with SF vocalist Pamela Parker, who later invited him to record on the 2010 N.O.W.Compilation CD.
